Titanium Aluminum nitride (TiALN) coating is a new type of coating appeared in recent years. Compared with titanium nitride, due to the addition of aluminum and Al components, Al ions diffuse to the surface at high temperature, which is easy to form a dense aluminum oxide (Al2O3) protective film, so that the oxidation resistance temperature of the film is increased from 600 ℃ of titanium nitride (TIN) to about 900 ℃ of aluminum titanium nitride (TiAlN), and the hardness of the coating is increased to nearly hv4000. Generally, the deposition method of aluminum titanium nitride (TiAlN) coating uses pure titanium and pure aluminum targets, or titanium aluminum mixed targets (generally 50% titanium aluminum targets), and this method is common, and generally, aluminum titanium nitride coating is a composite multilayer structure.
The cutting tool coated with aluminum titanium nitride has excellent ductility, which is suitable for intermittent cutting, and the hard brittle effect of sharp corners is weak, so it is not easy to peel off when doing intermittent cutting.
